New Harmony

New Harmony, Indiana, was founded as a utopian town, by not one, but two separate groups. The first in 1814 by German pietist separatists, led by George Rapp, and the second in 1825 by Robert Owen's more secular social reformers. Although it is now a very small town of less than 1000, the influence of these two communities is still apparent.

Harmonie State Park is located in the far southwest corner of Indiana. Its name refers to New Harmony, Indiana, once a religious and, later, a secular utopian community.
